Following the imminent retirement of John Emery, our founding Company Secretary, we are looking to recruit a new Company Secretary.

It's an exciting time to join the Kilby Woodland Trust as we plan for the following decade and beyond, securing the future of our woodland, alongside a small and enthusiastic team.

In this role as a secretary of the Trust, the main responsibilities is to ensure the smooth running of the Trust from a governance and admin perspective.  Specific areas include, maintaining the membership register, oversight of the accounts. Providing notice for formal meetings, attending impromptu monthly meetings with the other directors, agreeing agenda points and  recording minutes and agreed actions.

We are looking for someone with an interest in contributing to their community, a willingness to engage with the Trusts activities and the ability to fulfil the administrative responsibilities of the role, in a friendly, timely and efficient way.

The Nature Network is a friendly gathering of people with an interest in Nature. Online meetings are held on different evenings of the week at roughly six weekly intervals, featuring news and events updates, a main speaker, and information about seasonal conservation issues to be aware of.

National Forest Community Woods Network Event: 

Friday 16^th October - How to manage sites with safety in mind - dealing with risks from climate, humans and pests and diseases. Time: 09:30 – 14:00.

Jon Lewney, Countryside Manager for National Trust Calke Abbey and Ed Hiorns, Woodland Manager for National Forest will take us on a guided walk and talk around the Calke National Nature Reserve to find out how to balance conservation management with risk and public safety. Come back to the Learning Room for a group discussion, and a workshop on how to assess risk on your site, led by Simon Lowe (Derbyshire Wildlife Trust). FREE lunch!

Join Ed Hiorns, Woodland Manager for the National Forest Company for a day learning about the various pests and diseases affecting our woodlands, and what can be done to help make them safe.

Wednesday 2^nd & Thursday 3^rd December - Leading practical conservation tasks. 09:00 – 15:00 both days: Location – Prince’s Wood Community Wood, Tatenhill

This two-day practical course led by Simon Lowe (Training Officer for Derbyshire Wildlife Trust) will equip you with knowledge of key conservation tasks (e.g. coppicing, tree pruning, small tree felling), the tools needed for them and how to safely lead a session.
